At the age of 68, Darren realized he was facing homelessness. After retiring from his career as a construction worker, it became diffi

cult for him to pay for rent, food, and other essentials on his new fixed income. Now, as a senior citizen, he found himself feeling
vulnerable. Having to make the decision between paying rent and buying groceries took a toll on his mental health.
One snowy day in January, feeling cold and empty, his housing options exhausted, Darren came to Men’s Mission seeking help. Thanks to donors like you, he got the support and care he urgently needed.
After Darren began working one-on-one with his caseworker to lay the stepping stones for a path forward, he began to feel a sense of relief.
“I didn’t realize how much worry had been weighing me down,” said Darren. “Even though I didn’t want to be in that position, I felt relieved to have someone hand me good food, give me a place to sleep, and just reassurance that things would get better.”
Donors like you make it possible for Men’s Mission to offer Darren, and other men experiencing homelessness the support and care required to secure stable housing. He was also able to get essentials for his new home, like cookware and bedding, through the Mission Store’s Emergency Voucher Program.
“The people at Men’s Mission were there for me when really no one ever has been. It’s amazing that strangers want to help someone they don’t even know. The same for donors like you. I’m really grateful,” said Darren.
