COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMS (CMHP)

459 York St. London, ON
519.672.8500

We offer services which are intended to meet the needs of homeless or those "at risk" of becoming homeless, who may be experiencing mental health and or addiction issues, at their point of need.  We promote rehabilitative, harm reduction and recovery-based models of service that provide opportunities for people to attain their self-identified goals.

We have several Program components which are identified by the type of functions offered:

In-Shelter Workers

In-shelter caseworkers act as support and resource staff that work with individuals residing in the Shelter.  They provide crisis intervention as well as link, advocate, and accompany clients to other services within our community.  These staff members also maintain contact with discharged individuals for up to six months in order to assist with a smooth transition period if no other support is in place.

 From Under the Bridge

Streetscape

Streetscape is an Assertive Outreach Team that identify, engage, refer and provide support services to street-involved individuals; linking them to housing, income services, addiction resources and other agencies and providers to meet their identified needs.

Life Skills Program

The Resource Centre is a multipurpose room that not only offers individuals access to essentials such as a great cup of coffee or a hair cut, but also offers access to a telephone and computer as well as vocational, social, leisure, and educational programing.  The Resource Centre also offers access to individual function assessments, addiction assessments and referral to appropriate treatment centres.

The Crashbeds Program

Crash Beds

Crashbeds is a program that offers 21 beds and operates from 9:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. It is available to both men and women that either can not or will not access regular shelter beds, but is an inviting alternative to sleeping on the street.  There are 10 gender segregated beds for women and 11 beds for men, with each having a separate entrance.  Individuals staying at Crashbeds receive a private room and access to shower facilities and nourishment.

London CARe'Ssafe haven

Most recently, CMHP has partnered with the City of London and many other community agencies and services to form CARe'S (Community Addiction Response Strategy).  We are most excited to be involved in this unique collaborative effort to offer various resources to street-involved youth, female sex trade workers, people experiencing poverty, those living with AIDS and people who may have mental health and or addiction issues.  We are one of four "Safe Havens" in the London area and operate from 7:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. 7 days a week to offer a safe day space and essential services to vulnerable individuals 16 years of age and older.  We also operate the CARe'S Mobile Outreach Van which is on the street in the evening hours )Monday to Friday from 4:00 p.m. until Midnight) to assist street-involved homeless individuals with emergent needs that do not require medical or police intervention.

Mission Services of London receives funding support for this program from the Southwest LHIN (London Health Integrated Network), City of London and through community donations.  A copy of the LHIN M-SAA agreement and supporting documents are available to read at this branch site.

London CAReS

This is exciting news. A number of homeless organizations are participating in a new City of London initiative called London CAReS – the London Community Addiction Response Strategy. It is designed to find ways to alleviate the suffering of the homeless, many of whom experience an addiction or mental health concern, or both. One of three SAFE HAVEN locations is now open at the Gathering Place (457 York) from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m, Monday to Friday, to provide support for those individuals living on the street. As well, a MOBILE OUTREACH VAN staffed by Mission Services staff will be out on the street in the evening hours to help with emergent needs that do not require police or medical attention. We are so thankful for the leadership the City of London is showing in this area.
